IT Skills Re-Trainee Program Story


Structural Engineer friend of mine lost is his job 2 years ago and after applying for 600+ jobs during this time he was still jobless, later he got retrained in Data-Warehousing tool and found a full-time position with EBay Inc. Presently there are some sectors which are shrinking and some are booming, specially the IT with unemployment under 4% and jobs remaining open for months and if we can't produce enough people to work for this sector they will look somewhere else and it has already started and a lot many start-ups are outsourcing their products and even big enterprises are simply getting a lot of their work done offsite.


As you can see there is huge demand in IT sector, since we are in a process of rewriting the entire WWW for Touch devices and IT is no longer an option its the business now. Currently there is a huge demand for right skills in IT and on the other hand University education doesn't really produces right skills for the real market at right time as their education pattern is longer and they can't tweak what they teach that often and on the other hand IT demand changes quickly. Small IT Consulting companies really fill this void with their re-training programs by producing right skills for the real market quickly and cheaply.

Everybody dislikes these small IT Consulting companies for their shady attitude even people who work for them, I guess there is an explanation for this this.. firstly we should keep in mind that these companies are here to make profit these are pure businesses but.. they deal with lot of people who come to them broken and under confident and these companies start their relation being personal and noble but actually they are not....

Encourage more start-ups on Re-Training Program and give them tax brackets to fill few more jobs locally otherwise they might go somewhere else .

Why Re-Training Programs may create/fix Jobs in US




Proven: Re-Training Programs Institutes has worked for India. The IT boom started decade ago in India and has employed several millions of its workforce and many of these folks has acquired required skills in these institutes.


When I say it worked it means people are trained cheaply and quickly in skills which are highly desired in the job market and are able to get a job without having any formal degree in Computers.

Most of the job's advertised requires a degree and some skills, and at the same time these organization's don't have enough resources to train their new hires who lacks needed skills so its a balance they look for some degree (not necessarily a formal degree in Computers) with right skills are preferred.

  • They are less expensive (10 times cheaper then affiliated college)
  • Mainly focus on what is required in the real market
  • Don't bother you with class attendance and degrees
  • Easy and quick way of acquiring new skills
  • Usually their course ware are for couple of weeks which is perfect for job seeker or someone who wants to add new skills to his resume or use at his work without the pain of self learning everything hard way
As you can see Re Training Institute model fits many people jobless or not and I believe it also fits to current US job market, and this doesn't have to be for IT as it can also be applied for any other industry.

Re-Training Institutes have really worked for India and they are popular, located almost every where and they bridge the gap between a university education and required real job skills.
One more thing very interesting about them is they pay no taxes in India.

Who is Qualified to Interview new Hire ?

This article is very specific to IT Industry.

 1. Focus 
We all focus on how to find the best hire and if we don't have qualified people to find them then we never gonna find good people.


2. Problem
I believe not everyone is qualified for this job. "Non-Qualified" people are not qualified only in interviewing new hires and they might be good for what they were brought in. So what is the impact of having Non-Qualified people in an interview process ?
  1. They will add no value to it
  2. They will waste their and someone else time
  3. If there are more non-qualified people in the process they will certainly end-up with one more
  4. In a democratic process their bad vote weaken's a good one
  5. Their contribution most of the time will be negative*

3. So why Non-Qualified people are part of the process ?
  1. Management takes this too casually 
  2. Too busy
  3. Don't realize the high cost of hiring and firing *

4. How to spot Non-Qualified People ?
  1. Often they take things personally and screw conversation
  2. No respect for people's works
  3. They like to disprove person rather understanding his skill level
  4. Not honest, and will not hire better then them


4. How to find Qualified People ?
  1. They should be good listener and honest otherwise they shouldn't get a solo ride
  2. Any person part of the interview should have a clear role defined and document what purpose it serves and review this document over time
  3. Manager or Director who requires new hire should be part of all interactions with the finalist, since ultimately he/she is responsible*
  4. Any person part of the interview should provide a written report that should be referred in future if you start disliking the candidate
  5. No Solo interview assignment should be given to any person until most senior and qualified member (Manager or Director) approve and judge his ability in half a dozen interviews.
